NAWOJ Nasarawa Backs Special Seats Bill, Urges Lawmakers, Gov. Sule to Support Women’s Inclusion
Calls for urgent passage of HB1349 to boost women’s representation in governance

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Nasarawa State Chapter, has thrown its weight behind the Special Seats Bill (HB1349), urging lawmakers at both national and state levels to expedite its passage in order to strengthen women’s participation in governance.
In a press statement issued in Lafia and signed by the Chairperson, Mercy Tanze Zabadee, and Secretary, Esther Enna, the association described the proposed legislation as a critical step toward addressing gender imbalance and promoting inclusive leadership across Nigeria.
The association noted that increasing women’s representation in political and decision-making positions would accelerate development and ensure broader perspectives in governance.
“As women, we recognize the importance of inclusive governance and the need for more women in decision-making positions.
This Bill is crucial, and Nasarawa State stands to benefit immensely from enhanced female representation,” the statement read.
NAWOJ emphasized that women are agents of change and deserve equitable opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the political and socio-economic advancement of the state and the nation.
The association therefore urged members of the National Assembly to prioritize the passage of HB1349, while also calling on elected representatives from Nasarawa State to actively support and champion the bill.
NAWOJ further appealed to Abdullahi Sule, Governor of Nasarawa State, to demonstrate continued commitment to gender equality by publicly endorsing the proposed legislation.
Similarly, the association called on the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to align the state legislature with national efforts aimed at correcting gender imbalance in governance.
Reaffirming its commitment, NAWOJ Nasarawa pledged to continue advocating for policies and reforms that promote women’s empowerment and inclusive governance.
“Together, we can make history by ensuring women take their rightful place in shaping the future of Nasarawa State and Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
