FOMWAN Denies Endorsing Any Governorship Aspirant in Nasarawa, Faults False Media Report
Insists organization remains non-partisan, says courtesy visits by politicians do not amount to endorsement

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Nasarawa State Chapter, has firmly denied endorsing any governorship aspirant ahead of the forthcoming elections, describing as false and misleading a publication claiming otherwise.
In a rejoinder issued and signed by the State Amirah, Haj. Hasiya Ahmed, the organization clarified that it has not taken any political position or declared support for any candidate, emphasizing its commitment to neutrality and non-partisan principles.
FOMWAN stated categorically that it is a faith-based, non-governmental organization devoted to advocacy in education, social development, moral guidance, women and youth empowerment, and community development, rather than partisan political engagement.
The association explained that, as a respected stakeholder in Nasarawa State, political aspirants often visit its secretariat for consultation, dialogue, and prayers as part of broader stakeholder engagement. It stressed that such visits are customary and open to all aspirants regardless of party affiliation, and should not be interpreted as political endorsement.
FOMWAN also addressed a photograph circulating on social media showing its officials with a governorship aspirant, clarifying that the image was taken during a routine courtesy visit to its secretariat and does not signify support for any candidate.
The organization further reaffirmed that it does not compel or direct its members to vote for any particular candidate, nor does it impose political choices on its membership.
“It is our civic responsibility to educate and encourage members to participate in the electoral process responsibly, but the ultimate decision on whom to vote for rests solely with individual members,” the statement noted.
FOMWAN urged media organizations to uphold professionalism by verifying information before publication and avoiding actions capable of misrepresenting credible institutions or dragging them into partisan narratives.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, justice, and sustainable development in Nasarawa State, while maintaining its longstanding tradition of neutrality in political matters.
