Mazi Nnamdi Kanu directs full resumption of schools, markets, offices, warns against unauthorized enforcement

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the total and permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home across the South-East, declaring that normal socio-economic activities must resume with immediate effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.
The directive, according to IPOB, comes directly from its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who ordered an end to the exercise to allow children return to school and citizens conduct their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation.
In a press statement issued on Sunday by IPOB’s Spokesperson and Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group stated that the era of Monday sit-at-home had come to an end and should no longer be observed under any guise.
The statement stressed that there is no longer any justification for staying at home on Mondays, adding that markets, schools, offices, transport services, and all economic activities are to operate fully and normally.
IPOB warned that any individual or group attempting to enforce sit-at-home contrary to the directive is acting against the explicit instruction of its leader and would be regarded as an enemy of the people and the Biafran cause.
The group also cautioned against alleged false-flag operations aimed at creating fear or forcing compliance, urging residents of the South-East to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
While reiterating its position, IPOB stated that state governors have no right to intimidate or threaten traders who voluntarily choose to stay at home, warning against forced market closures, demolitions, or intimidation of business owners.
The statement further emphasized that any renovation or reconstruction of markets must involve the consent of all stakeholders, with adequate alternative trading arrangements provided before commencement.
Calling for unity, IPOB urged the people of the South-East to reject fear and division, describing the struggle as one for freedom, dignity, and justice.
The group concluded by calling on residents to open their shops, go to work, and send their children to school without fear, insisting that the Monday sit-at-home policy has been officially terminated.
