NDC Demands Cancellation of Nasarawa North Senatorial By-Election Over Alleged Electoral Irregularities
Claims Party Logo Was Omitted From Ballot Materials, Alleges BVAS Failures and Result Manipulation

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Nasarawa State Chapter, has called for the immediate cancellation of the Nasarawa North Senatorial District By-Election held on June 20, 2026, citing what it described as widespread electoral irregularities and violations of democratic procedures.
In a press statement signed by the party's State Publicity Secretary, Danjuma Joseph, the NDC alleged that its official logo was omitted from ballot papers and Form EC8A(1) result sheets despite being a duly registered political party cleared to participate in the election.
The party further claimed that there was no provision for NDC agents to sign election result sheets at the ward, local government, and state collation levels, a situation it said undermined transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
According to the statement, the logo that appeared on the ballot paper did not belong to the NDC, which the party described as a deliberate attempt to mislead voters and suppress its participation in the election.
The party also expressed concern over what it described as inconsistencies in the use of its logo, noting that while the correct logo was reportedly used during a by-election conducted in Enugu State on the same day, a different logo was allegedly used in Nasarawa State.
"The development raises serious questions about the credibility of the electoral process and our ability to participate fairly as a registered political party," the statement read.
The NDC further alleged that several polling units experienced malfunctioning Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, a development it said affected the credibility and smooth conduct of the election.
In addition, the party claimed to have received reports of result manipulation and alteration allegedly carried out in favour of the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by some party officials and government functionaries in the state.
Consequently, the NDC announced its rejection of the conduct and outcome of the by-election and vowed to explore all available legal avenues to defend its democratic rights and protect the interests of its supporters.
The party called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the concerns raised and ensure that electoral processes remain transparent, credible, and inclusive.
