The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday held a crucial closed-door meeting with its members in the State House of Assembly, where it passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker and APC lawmakers, while reiterating that the party has no anointed governorship candidate.
The meeting took place at the Lafia residence of the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, and was attended by APC legislators and members of the party’s State Executive Committee, led by the State Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Dr. Bello said the engagement was convened to review emerging political and administrative issues affecting the party and the state, and to strengthen internal party cohesion.
He commended APC lawmakers for their performance in office, noting their empowerment initiatives and legislative support for the administration of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule.
“We came as a party to interact with our members and to appreciate them for their commitment to serving the people.
They are worthy representatives and have continued to support the masses through various empowerment programmes,” Bello said.
He added that the achievements recorded by the state government were largely due to the cooperation of the legislature, particularly the timely passage of budgets and other critical legislations.
On the 2027 governorship race, the APC chairman stressed that the party has not endorsed or anointed any aspirant.
“As a party, we are not supporting any governorship aspirant. We are waiting for the Governor to make his decision,” he stated.
In his remarks, Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, described the meeting as fruitful and reassuring, saying it further strengthened the synergy between the legislature and the party leadership.
“The essence of this visit is to strengthen the party and reinforce the relationship between the 15 APC members in the House and our great party.
They have been monitoring our activities and came to tell us they are satisfied with what we are doing,” the Speaker said.
Dr. Jatau also clarified that the party has not commenced campaigns for any elective position, noting that only consultations are ongoing in line with democratic norms and the law.
