Nasarawa SDP Rejects Purported State Congress, Declares Exercise Illegal
State Chairman distances party from alleged gathering, urges members to disregard invitation

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has rejected a purported state congress allegedly being organized by certain individuals, describing the move as illegal, unconstitutional, and of no effect.
The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Danlami Mohammed Musa, made the position known while addressing journalists in Lafia, where he distanced the party from the planned exercise.
Hon. Musa stated that the congress being circulated in some quarters was not sanctioned by the legitimate leadership of the party, warning members, security agencies, and the general public to disregard any invitation linked to the said gathering.
According to him, the only recognized national leadership of the SDP remains under Shehu Musa Gabam, which has duly communicated official timelines for party activities nationwide, including congresses, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with acknowledgment already secured.
He emphasized that the organizers of the purported congress are unknown to the party and are acting in clear violation of the Electoral Act and the SDP Constitution (2022 as amended).
The chairman reiterated that the authentic ward, local government, and state congresses in Nasarawa State will be conducted in line with directives from the national leadership and in compliance with due process.
He further cautioned that any member who participates in the illegal congress does so at his or her own risk.
Hon. Musa reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the rule of law, internal democracy, and orderly conduct of its affairs, urging members to remain loyal and united.
“SDP in Nasarawa State will continue to operate within the ambit of the law and respect all constitutional provisions guiding party activities,” he added.
