The newly appointed Honourable Federal Commissioner (HFC) of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, on Tuesday, December 17, 2025, officially resumed duty at the Commission’s Nasarawa State Office in Lafia.
Dr. Kigbu, popularly known as Lekita Talakawa, was received by the State Director, Ibrahim Danladi Asamu, alongside members of the management team and staff. Shortly after his arrival, the Federal Commissioner held a closed-door meeting with management and staff at the conference room.
He briefed the Commissioner on the progress recorded by the state office and outlined key challenges, including poor access roads to the office, electricity and transformer needs, Enumeration Area Cartographic Reconnaissance Survey (ECRS), ongoing digital birth certificate distribution, the Mini National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), and collaboration with sister agencies such as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
He disclosed that even before his resumption at the state office, he had commenced official engagements at the national level, accompanying the Chairman of the Commission to key events in Abuja.
He assured staff that the Chairman’s seven-point agenda would be made available across the Commission, with staff welfare to be taken to a higher level.
Dr. Kigbu pledged to work closely with all staff, stressing that dedication and diligence would be rewarded, while acts of indiscipline would attract appropriate sanctions.
He called for the cooperation and support of all personnel to ensure the successful delivery of the Commission’s mandate.
The highlight of the visit was a familiarization tour of the office and group photographs with staff.
