The Niger State Parent-teacher Association (NIPTA), has described the actions of the Director General Schools Reform,in Niger State and the National Parent Teacher Association (NAPTA) to dissolve the NIPTA as unwarranted and unconstitutional.
This was contained in a Press statement signed by the association chairman in Niger State Mallam Adamu Yunusa and made available to Journalists in Minna, Wednesday,noted that the association was duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under the registration number 8307546.
He described as illegal the action of the Director General of school reforms in Niger State and the executive of NAPTAN for the purpoted dissolution of the Niger State Parent Teachers Association NIPTA stating that the association is legally backed by enabling law.
According to the press statement, NIPTA as a constitutional and lawfully registered association its dissolution can only be effected by a court of competent jurisdiction,not an individual.
The statement condemned in strong terms the action of the Director General of overreacting her boundary and the demonstration of disregard for the rights of NIPTA members emphasizing that the Director General, school reforms and the National Parent Teacher Association (NAPTA) lack the constitutional power to dissolve the NIPTA and their actions are null and void.
“ We strongly condemn this unwarranted,and unconstitutional action which is a clear overreach and demonstration of disregard for the rights of NIPTA members.
“ The Director General, school reforms, and NAPTAN lack the constitutional power to dissolve NIPTA, and their actions will be resisted in competent court of law” the chairman declared in a Press statement.
The Chairman also posited that the association as a lawfully registered association, will not under any unlawful action of the duo of the Director General and the NAPTAN leadership recognize or comply with the unlawful directive.
Mallam Adamu Yunusa, insisted that the association under his leadership is committed to the well beings of its members through the promotion of the welfare of teachers, students and parents in Niger State, adding that the Niger parents teacher association will not allow “ this baseless attempt to disrupt our activities
“ We reject the dissolution in its entirety and assert our right to continue operating as registered association. We urge our members, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard this announcement and to continue to engage with us as usual “ he added.
He assured members of the association of his readiness to take the necessary means towards ensuring the protection of the Interests of members and the education sector in Niger State at all times.
While calling on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene and uphold the rule of law,Mallam Adamu Yunusa urged the public to throw their weight and support to their cause and recognize our legitimate status as the representative body for parents and teachers in Niger State.
“ We will not be intimidated or deterred by this unlawful action and will continue to operate and carry out our activities within the ambit of the enabling law as usual.” he concluded.
