Sector Commander Yahaya Adikwu Says Initiative Aims to Promote Safe Driving, Strengthen FRSC-Media Partnership

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nasarawa State Command, has concluded plans to introduce a Best Driver of the Year Award aimed at encouraging compliance with traffic regulations and promoting road safety culture among motorists in the state.
The State Sector Commander, Yahaya Sabo Adikwu, disclosed this during an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, in Lafia.
Adikwu explained that the initiative seeks to reward outstanding drivers and motivate others to strictly adhere to traffic rules in line with global best practices.
He said the Corps would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify deserving drivers and provide continuous education on safe road use for both private and commercial motorists.
The Sector Commander emphasized the importance of maintaining valid vehicle and driver’s documents, observing safety measures, and ensuring discipline on highways to reduce accidents and loss of lives.
While acknowledging the crucial role of journalists in public enlightenment, Adikwu described journalism as one of the most noble professions in the world. He called for sustained collaboration between the media and the FRSC to enhance awareness campaigns and public understanding of the Corps’ activities.
He also urged journalists to remain united and supportive of one another, noting that his experience in the media before joining the FRSC had strengthened his passion for public service and communication.
In his remarks, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, commended the FRSC Sector Commander for his proactive leadership and assured him of the Union’s support through wide publicity of the Corps’ programmes and campaigns.
While congratulating Adikwu on his appointment, Comrade Alkali expressed optimism that his media background would further enhance synergy between the FRSC and journalists in promoting road safety and responsible driving across Nasarawa State.
