Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has appointed Kefas Julius Bala from Karu Local Government Area as the new Auditor-General of the State, with the State House of Assembly slated to screen him on Wednesday.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, disclosed this during the Assembly’s Monday plenary in Lafia, after reading a letter from the Governor requesting legislative confirmation of the appointment. The House directed the nominee to submit 30 copies of his curriculum vitae ahead of the screening exercise.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has advanced the bill seeking to amend the Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES) to its next legislative stage, adopting the committee report containing 12 key recommendations.
The amendment, sponsored by Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, member representing Lafia Central Constituency, aims to transform NAYES into the Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Agency (NAYEA). The proposed law seeks to enhance the welfare of agency personnel, equip them with relevant skills acquisition training, and enable them to contribute more effectively to the state’s economy.
According to Speaker Jatau, the third reading and final passage of the bill have been scheduled for November 26, after which the agency will officially be recognized as NAYEA.
Similarly, the House also considered two bills for second reading—one to name the Banquet Hall at the Government House, Lafia, after late Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma, and another to rename the Presidential Lodge in the Government House after Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura. Both bills were referred to the House Standing Committee on Works, with a directive to report back between November 24 and 25.
During the sitting, the House observed a minute of silence in honour of Barr. Solomon Ewuga, the pioneer Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, former Senator, and Minister, who was laid to rest over the weekend.
