Senator Mohammed Onawo Resigns from ADC, Cites Internal Crisis and Legal Disputes
Former Nasarawa South governorship aspirant says party's lingering challenges no longer provide conducive platform to effectively serve constituents

Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, has formally resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing persistent internal challenges and protracted legal disputes within the party.
In a resignation letter dated July 2, 2026, addressed to the Ward Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Galadimawa Ward, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the senator stated that his resignation takes effect from June 15, 2026.
Senator Onawo explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with his constituents, political associates and other critical stakeholders.
According to him, the prevailing circumstances within the party, particularly the prolonged internal crisis and legal battles, have eroded the cohesion, support and enabling environment required for him to effectively represent his constituents and pursue the developmental mandate entrusted to him.
The lawmaker stressed that his overriding commitment remains the effective representation of the people of Nasarawa South and the delivery of meaningful development, adding that the current state of affairs within the ADC no longer supports that objective.
He expressed appreciation to his supporters, political associates and well-wishers for the trust, loyalty and cooperation they extended to him throughout his membership of the party.
Senator Onawo also wished the ADC continued progress and success, thanking the party for the opportunity to serve under its platform.
His resignation is expected to reshape the political landscape in Nasarawa State as consultations and political realignments gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the senator did not disclose his next political destination in the resignation letter.
