Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding press freedom as a cornerstone of democracy and good governance.
The governor made this known during the Eyewitness Newspaper Annual Lecture and Award Series 2025 held in Lafia, the state capital.
The event had as its theme “From Vision to Legacy: Governor Abdullahi Sule’s Holistic Development and the Imperatives of Continuity in Nasarawa State.”
Represented by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Tanko, Governor Sule described the media as a vital partner in promoting transparency, accountability, and civic engagement.
He assured that his administration will continue to provide an enabling environment for journalists to operate freely and responsibly.
He emphasized that the government has consistently engaged the media as a bridge between the people and the administration, fostering open dialogue, constructive criticism, and factual reporting.
The governor also commended Eyewitness Newspaper for its professionalism and dedication to truthful information dissemination.
In his welcome address, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Lamus Rayyanu, lauded Governor Sule’s leadership style and commitment to peace and development in the state.
Guest speaker and former Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Mr. Timothy Anjide, highlighted some of the governor’s legacy projects, describing his administration as visionary and people-oriented.
He called on Governor Sule to heed the people’s call to continue serving, particularly in Nasarawa North, noting that his impact extends beyond the zone to the entire North Central region.
Mr. Anjide further outlined five central pillars of Governor Sule’s leadership , respect for human dignity, economic diversification, infrastructure renewal, human capital development, and good governance.
Among the awardees were the former Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib (represented by former Majority Leader of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Abdulhameed Kwara), and the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre Keffi, Dr. Yahaya Baba Adamu.
They both expressed appreciation to the Eyewitness Newspaper for recognizing their contributions to humanitarian service.
The Publisher of Eyewitness Newspaper, Donatus Nadi, thanked Governor Sule and other stakeholders for their continuous support to the organization.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to Governor Abdullahi Sule; Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I (Rtd.); former Customs Controller, Mr. Joseph Attah; Agbawu Mek Agbawu, who was named Best Performing Chairman 2025; Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman; and CMD of FMC Keffi, Dr. Yahaya Baba Adamu.
