The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Hajiya Farida Umar as a member of the Ward Congresses Electoral Committee for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ahead of the 2025 Area Council primary elections.
Hajiya Farida Umar, a seasoned politician and dedicated party loyalist, was a contender for the position of National Ex-officio in the recent PDP zonal congress held in Jos.
Speaking further Hajiya Umar opened up that she voluntarily stepped down from the race following an appeal by the Plateau State Governor, who urged her to support Sudar Aliyu.
A prominent grassroots mobilizer, Farida Umar served as the Director General of the Aspiration Grassroots Mobilization Alliance (AGMA), a key support platform during the 2023 presidential campaign of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The Electoral Committee, which begins its assignment today, is charged with the responsibility of conducting ward congresses to elect three ad-hoc delegates from each ward in the FCT, who will participate in the party's Area Council primary election scheduled for 2025.
The committee is chaired by the Nasarawa State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Bako Ninga, with Alhaji Suleiman Mohammed Aboki and Abdulkadir Ibrahim serving as members. Hon. Sunday Gullong was named Secretary, alongside other appointed members.
Party stakeholders have expressed confidence in the committee’s capacity to deliver credible and transparent ward congresses.
Many believe that the inclusion of Hajiya Farida Umar, known for her integrity and commitment to party ideals, will strengthen the committee’s performance and ensure a successful outcome for the PDP in the FCT.
