Nasarawa Citizens Raise Alarm Over Alleged Imposition, Demand Democratic Integrity
Dr. Zakka Yakubu Leads Call for Justice, Inclusion, and Due Process

A strong wave of concern has emerged across Nasarawa State following allegations of imposition and lack of transparency in the state’s evolving political landscape, as stakeholders call for the protection of democratic principles.
In a statement issued under the banner “A Call to Action for the People of Nasarawa State: Defending Democracy, Justice, and Our Collective Future,” Dr. Zakka Ledkwi Yakubu urged citizens to rise in defense of fairness, accountability, and inclusive governance.
Describing the current political climate as a “defining moment,” the statement warned that the state stands at a critical crossroads between democratic ideals and what it termed the influence of “a select few individuals.”
The statement stressed that leadership must emerge strictly through free, fair, and credible electoral processes, cautioning against any attempt to impose candidates or sideline the will of the people.
“The law is clear. Democracy is clear. Leaders must emerge through due process, not imposition or personal preference,” the statement noted.
Concerns Over Exclusion, Concentration of Power
According to the statement, many citizens and party members across the state have expressed dissatisfaction over what they perceive as growing exclusion and concentration of decision-making power.
It warned against a system where decisions affecting millions are made without adequate consultation, insisting that such practices undermine public trust and democratic values.
The statement further emphasized that the strength of Nasarawa State lies in its diversity, calling for equal participation and representation for all communities, regardless of status or background.
Call for Reflection and Accountability Raising questions about recent political developments, the statement urged stakeholders to reflect on issues of party loyalty, transparency, and attempts to influence future leadership outcomes.
It maintained that the situation goes beyond individuals, focusing instead on the broader principles of justice, fairness, and democratic accountability.
