In line with its constitutional mandate, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has commenced an oversight exercise across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state to evaluate performance and ensure accountability in the use of public funds.
The exercise began on Wednesday with visits to Nasarawa and Toto LGAs.
During the visit, the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, led by its Chairman, Hon. Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, applauded the Executive Chairman of Toto LGA, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, for his outstanding achievements and transparent management of resources.
Hon. Musa described the Toto Chairman’s performance as exemplary, rating him at 75% for executing projects that directly impact grassroots communities. He noted that the projects and facilities observed demonstrate that effective leadership and proper utilization of resources can transform local communities.
“What we have witnessed today confirms that some local government chairmen are truly delivering on their mandates. Pharm. Yahaya is always with his people and has judiciously utilized both appropriated funds and federal allocations,” Hon. Musa stated.
Highlighting specific achievements, the committee noted:
- 220 hectares of rice farms in Katakpa
- 150 hectares of maize in Toto
- 50 hectares of cassava in Gadabuke
- Distribution of insecticides, sprayers
- A newly acquired and renovated NYSC lodge
- Visible efforts to maintain peace and security in the area
In contrast, the committee withheld comments on Nasarawa Local Government Area, with Hon. Musa stating that assessments from the visit would be reviewed at plenary before any public declaration is made.
In his response, the Chairman of Toto LGA, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, appreciated the Assembly for the visit and reiterated his administration’s focus on agriculture, food security, and infrastructural development. He assured continued collaboration with the House for the betterment of the local government.
The committee inspected various project sites including farms and renovated facilities, commending the visible impact of governance at the grassroots level in Toto LGA.
