President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today commissioned a 132KV transmission line and a 132KV/33KV substation in Ode Erinje, Okitipupa, effectively ending a 15-year blackout in Ondo South Senatorial District. The Ode Erinje Power Substation, powered by the Omotosho Power Plant, is set to provide electricity to over 2,000 communities across five local government areas.
Represented by the Hon. Minister of Niger Delta Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, President Tinubu emphasized that the project's completion is in line with his administration's priorities for sustainable development and economic growth. According to a statement by the Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr. John Mayaki, the Minister highlighted the essential role of reliable power in driving business success and revitalizing communities. He further mentioned that the President has committed to establishing exclusive funding to enhance the region.
The project is expected to generate job opportunities, attract new investments, improve healthcare, and support socioeconomic development, significantly boosting economic activities and enhancing the quality of life with dependable and affordable electricity.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure improvement, stating, “Today’s event is a testament to our commitment to sustainable electricity supply and ensuring a permanent end to 15 years of darkness in the Southern Senatorial District of the State.”
Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, described the project as a vital part of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing the importance of electricity for sustainable development in the state and Nigeria. NDDC Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, praised the state for maintaining project security and highlighted the mission to bridge infrastructural gaps and foster economic activity across the Niger Delta region.
The event was attended by members of the Senate Committee on NDDC, traditional rulers, Ondo State House of Assembly members, and other dignitaries.
