APC 2027: Ex-IGP Adamu’s Group Rejects ‘Preferred Candidate’ in Nasarawa
Insists on Party Constitution, Demands Transparent Primaries

A political support group loyal to former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has rejected the alleged endorsement of a “preferred” governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the development as unconstitutional and a threat to internal democracy within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The position was made known during a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre Lafia, where the Director-General of the Mohammed Abubakar Adamu 2027 Gubernatorial Movement, Hon. Barr. Musa Hussein, addressed journalists on recent political developments in the state.
Hussein faulted reports linking Governor Abdullahi Sule to the adoption of a candidate before the conduct of party primaries, stressing that such actions contravene the constitution of the APC.
According to him, the party constitution clearly provides only two legitimate pathways for the emergence of candidates, direct primaries or consensus, warning that any attempt to impose a candidate outside these provisions lacks constitutional backing.
The group described claims of a collective endorsement by party stakeholders as misleading, alleging that some ward executives and officials were subjected to undue pressure, thereby compromising the credibility of the process.
It further clarified that no official endorsement has been granted by the national leadership of the party for any governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State, urging the public to disregard contrary claims.
The statement also raised concerns over alleged intimidation of public office holders, including local government officials, councillors, and aides, who were reportedly coerced to support a particular aspirant under threat of removal.
“A governorship primary is a democratic contest, not a coronation.
Every aspirant deserves a level playing field,” Hussein stated, warning that the use of state influence to favour any individual could undermine party unity and erode public confidence.
Maintaining that no primary election has been conducted, the group insisted that all aspirants remain equal stakeholders, stressing that any declaration of a “preferred candidate” remains unofficial and without constitutional validity.
It reminded party officials at all levels of their obligation to remain neutral, cautioning that premature endorsements or partisan alignment before the primaries constitute misconduct.
The group called on the national leadership of the APC to urgently intervene by reviewing the situation, nullifying any unconstitutional declarations, and ensuring strict adherence to due process.
It reiterated that the only legitimate process for selecting the party’s governorship candidate remains the direct primary election scheduled for May 21, 2026, urging that the exercise be transparent and credible.
The statement appealed to the people of Nasarawa State to resist political intimidation, noting that democracy thrives when citizens freely choose their leaders.
It concluded by firmly rejecting any form of imposition, stressing that the party’s constitution must prevail and that the ultimate decision rests with the people.
