Yobe Youths Reject Nomination Form Purchase for Ahmed Lawan
Question senator’s performance, allege self-funding of N188m form as calls grow for credible leadership ahead of 2027 polls

Youth groups across Yobe State have strongly opposed the reported purchase of a governorship nomination form for former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, describing the move as unjustified and lacking grassroots support.
The youths, including stakeholders from Zone C—currently represented by the senator at the National Assemble, questioned his track record, asking what tangible impact he has made on his constituents and the state despite his long-standing presence in national politics.
Ahmed Lawan, who has represented the district comprising Bade, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Nguru, Machina and Yusufari since 1999, served as Senate President between 2019 and 2023.
Reacting to reports that a group known as “Ahmed Lawan boys” contributed about N188 million to procure the nomination form, a youth political analyst, Abdullahi Mohammed Almajir, dismissed the claim as misleading.
He alleged that the funds were not genuinely raised by the group but rather sourced directly from the senator himself, questioning the financial capacity of the contributors.
Almajir further challenged supporters of the former Senate President to point to verifiable developmental projects in his constituency, suggesting that such funds could have been better utilized to address pressing needs such as potable water supply in communities battling waterborne diseases.
In a similar vein, a Damaturu-based youth leader, Mustapha Musa, cautioned young people against being exploited by politicians with poor performance records.
He urged the electorate to prioritize competence and track record as the 2027 general elections approach, stressing the need to elect leaders committed to inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Meanwhile, political activities in Yobe State are intensifying as various groups, including youths, women, and community stakeholders, mobilize to influence the emergence of credible candidates capable of sustaining developmental strides.
Observers note that attention is also focused on the outgoing administration of Mai Mala Buni, as discussions continue on consolidating the achievements recorded under his leadership ahead of the next electoral cycle.
