APC Leadership Crisis Deepens as Uno Ekong Backs Hafsatu Danladi, Seeks INEC Recognition
Faction rejects Yilwatda-led structure, threatens court action to affirm ‘authentic’ party leadership

A fresh twist has emerged in the leadership tussle within the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a faction led by National Secretary, Uno Ekong, has declared support for Hafsatu Danladi as the “legitimate and authentic” National Chairperson of the party.
In a press release issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Ekong, speaking on behalf of what he described as the “duly constituted National Executive Committee (NEC)” and loyal party members, dismissed the leadership structure associated with Nentawe Yilwatda, insisting it does not reflect the will of the original party framework.
The faction maintained that its position is anchored on adherence to the party’s constitution, due process, and the founding ideals of the APC, stressing that Danladi and her executive remain the rightful custodians of the party’s mandate.
Ekong further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formally recognize the Danladi-led leadership, arguing that such action is necessary to safeguard democratic principles and restore public confidence in the electoral system.
He warned that failure to accord recognition could undermine the integrity of democratic institutions, adding that the group is prepared to seek judicial intervention at the Federal High Court in Abuja to validate its claim.
The statement also urged party members nationwide and concerned Nigerians to align with what it termed the “authentic leadership,” reaffirming the faction’s commitment to repositioning the APC for effective governance.
The development signals a deepening crisis within the ruling party, with competing claims to leadership likely to trigger legal and political battles in the coming weeks.
