IPOB Accuses Nigerian Government of Plot to Demonize Group, Calls for International Probe

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Nigerian Army and the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of Nigeria of allegedly orchestrating a campaign to portray the group as responsible for insecurity in the South-East.
In a press statement issued on Saturday by the IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the separatist group claimed that recent security reports linking it to improvised explosive devices were fabricated as part of a broader effort to justify intensified military operations in the region.
The group also reiterated its support for the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, insisting that accusations of terrorism and violence against the organization were politically motivated.
Allegations of Doctored Images
IPOB alleged that photographs circulated by military authorities claiming the discovery of improvised explosive devices in Imo State were originally taken from earlier incidents outside the South-East.
According to the group, the images were linked to past security operations in Oyo State but later presented as evidence of an alleged bomb-making facility connected to IPOB.
The statement referenced a report by Parallel Facts, which it said analyzed the metadata of the images and concluded that they were repurposed from previous incidents.
IPOB further accused the military of attempting to create a narrative of escalating violence in the region in order to secure increased security funding.
Claims of Political Collaboration
The organization also alleged that certain political actors from the South-East were collaborating with federal authorities to undermine the Biafran movement.
According to IPOB, such actions were aimed at weakening agitation for self-determination and consolidating federal control over the region.
Call for International Intervention
IPOB called on the United States Government and the Government of Israel to review their relations with Nigeria, particularly military cooperation, while urging international bodies to investigate alleged human rights abuses in the South-East.
The group reiterated its demand for the release of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and called for an end to military operations in the region.
Commitment to Self-Determination.
Despite the accusations, IPOB maintained that its campaign for Biafra remains a non-violent struggle for self-determination and urged the international community to intervene to prevent further escalation of tensions in the South-East.
