Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have demonstrated unity and political maturity by adopting the consensus method and conducting a peaceful ward congress across the area.
The stakeholders, who converged at the Local Government Guest House in Garaku, reached a common ground and agreed to abide by the consensus arrangement as approved by the party’s national leadership, ensuring a rancour-free exercise.
Speaking during the stakeholders’ meeting, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, emphasized the importance of unity, discipline, and peaceful conduct during the ward congress, urging members to prioritize the party’s interest above personal ambitions.
Dr. Jatau noted that the meeting was convened to ensure the smooth conduct of the ward congress and to strengthen internal cohesion within the party in Kokona LGA.
“Today marks the commencement of the ward congress as fixed by the national leadership of our great party, the APC. Critical stakeholders in Kokona LGA have met and agreed to conduct the exercise peacefully and successfully,” he said.
He further assured that Kokona would continue to maintain its reputation as one of the most peaceful local government areas in the state during political activities, expressing optimism that the exercise would be transparent and credible.
The Speaker urged stakeholders to ensure strict adherence to party guidelines and constitutional provisions while conducting the congress in their respective wards to promote unity, peace, and sustainable development within the party.
Also speaking, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, who served as the Congress Leader in the local government, described the meeting as fruitful and successful, reaffirming the stakeholders’ commitment to consensus.
Dr. Mamman announced that key party leaders were assigned responsibilities to supervise the exercise in their respective districts and wards. He named Dr. Danladi Jatau as leader of the ward congress in Bassa District, while Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi was assigned to oversee Garaku. Other leaders, including Prof. Abdulkarim Kana and himself, were also tasked with supervising the exercise.
According to him, the adoption of consensus was aimed at fostering unity, peace, progress, and development within the party structure.
“We are going to elect our ward executive members through consensus in the overall interest of unity and progress of the APC,” he stated.
Dr. Mamman further urged party members and stakeholders to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and uphold the party’s values throughout the process.

The meeting was attended by prominent APC stakeholders, including Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly; Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi, Member representing Kokona East Constituency; Hon. Agbawu Mek Agbawu, Chairman of Kokona Local Government Council; Hon. Barr. Abubakar Obere Kana, former member representing Kokona West Constituency; Hon. Raphael Dogara Sa’aka, former member representing Kokona East Constituency; Hon.
