Ramadan, Lent: Gov Sule’s Aide Urges Faithful to Embrace Righteous Living, Promote Unity
Calls for prayers for Tinubu, Sule as two major spiritual seasons converge
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi A. Sule on Christian Religious Matters, Venerable Jibrailu Yarima Dabong, has called on Muslims and Christians in Nasarawa State to embrace holy and righteous living as they commence the sacred seasons of Ramadan and Lent.
Dabong made the appeal in a press statement issued ahead of the simultaneous observance of Ramadan by Muslims and the Lenten season by Christians, both of which begin this Wednesday with Ash Wednesday.
He described the convergence of the two significant religious periods as a rare and meaningful moment that reflects shared spiritual values across both faiths, including self-reflection, sacrifice, love, compassion, and spiritual growth.
According to him, Ramadan commemorates the revelation of the Holy Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad and emphasizes fasting, prayer, charity, and devotion, while Lent marks the 40-day fasting period of Jesus Christ, focusing on repentance, prayer, fasting, and spiritual discipline.
The Governor’s aide noted that the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent presents a unique opportunity to strengthen interfaith harmony, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among the people of the state.
He urged residents to use the sacred period to deepen their spiritual commitments and promote unity, regardless of religious or cultural differences.
“I call on the people of Nasarawa State to see ourselves as one, irrespective of our religious diversity and cultural differences,” Dabong stated.
He further encouraged citizens to offer prayers for national and state leaders, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi Sule, for sustained peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
Dabong reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to fostering religious harmony and peaceful coexistence among all citizens.
