The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Ph.D, has congratulated Muslims and Christians on the commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fast and Lenten season, calling on believers to offer fervent prayers for leaders and the nation’s progress.
Speaker Jatau described the rare coincidence of Ramadan and Lent commencing on the same day as a divine occurrence filled with greater blessings for Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Jibrin Gwamna, the Speaker congratulated Muslims for witnessing the holy month of Ramadan and successfully beginning the annual fast, while also identifying with Christians on the commencement of the 40-day Lenten season.
He noted that both periods represent significant spiritual exercises for adherents of Islam and Christianity, stressing the need for citizens to appreciate God for granting them the opportunity to witness the sacred observances.
The Speaker urged residents to use the period for sober reflection, spiritual renewal, and strengthening bonds of unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence across religious lines.
He also called on Muslims and Christians to pray fervently for leaders at all levels, as well as for Nasarawa State and Nigeria to overcome prevailing socio-economic and developmental challenges.
Speaker Jatau further appealed to wealthy individuals and privileged members of society to extend support to the less privileged, enabling them to observe the fasting periods with dignity and ease.
He encouraged religious leaders to use the opportunity to preach peace, unity, and togetherness among their followers, emphasizing that such values are essential for building an egalitarian society where development can thrive.
The Speaker also urged citizens to continue praying for and supporting the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule and the State Assembly to enable them deliver effectively on their mandates.
Speaker Jatau wished Muslims and Christians a successful Ramadan and Lenten season, praying that the spiritual exercises would usher in peace, prosperity, and abundant blessings for the state and the nation.
