Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to sustained and enhanced funding for the Rivers State University (RSU).
The Governor made this declaration on Saturday during the combined 37th and 38th convocation ceremonies held at the university’s convocation arena in Port Harcourt.
He disclosed that satellite campuses grappling with operational challenges will receive accelerated intervention in 2026.
Reaffirming that the state will not relent in meeting its financial obligations to RSU, the Governor described education as the most valuable investment for national development.
He urged RSU to further intensify innovation and research-driven initiatives capable of addressing key socio-economic challenges facing Rivers State and the country.
A total of 13,242 graduates were awarded degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
The Governor congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to uphold entrepreneurship, integrity, and hard work as they transition into the next phase of their lives.
RSU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, presiding over his first convocation since assuming office in March 2025, highlighted key milestones, including accommodation for 40,000 students and the full accreditation of all academic programmes.
He confirmed that 10,648 students obtained first degrees, while 2,594 completed postgraduate programmes, with 157 graduating with First Class honours.
Pro-Chancellor, Hon. Okey Wali, SAN, commended Governor Fubara for his administration’s strong funding support.
He announced a five-year Strategic Development Plan (2026–2030) aimed at transforming RSU into a globally competitive institution through research commercialization, administrative reforms, and strict anti-corruption frameworks.
He also charged institutions across the country to embrace emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to boost learning, innovation, and productivity.
