The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, has publicly announced that he will not seek re-election in the 2027 general elections, bringing his 12-year legislative career to a close.

The announcement was contained in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, where the lawmaker expressed deep gratitude to his constituents for their unwavering support since he first won election to represent Kokona West Constituency three terms ago.

Dr. Jatau noted that leadership demands wisdom and timing, adding, “It is always good for you to leave the stage when the ovation is still high.”

A scholar and politician, Dr. Jatau holds a PhD, making him the first sitting Speaker in Nasarawa State’s history to attain such a qualification. His tenure has been widely praised for promoting inclusive governance, peace, and unity in the state.

His declaration has ignited discussions across Nasarawa’s political landscape, with analysts and stakeholders already speculating on potential successors and the likely direction of the Assembly ahead of the 2027 polls.

As the legislature prepares for a new leadership phase, many believe that Dr. Jatau’s contributions to the growth, stability, and development of Nasarawa State will remain a significant part of his legacy.
