Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has defended his preference for polygamy, saying men with only one wife are at a disadvantage.
The lawmaker, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, argued that polygamy provides men with greater balance and stability in life.
Nwoko, who is married to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and three other women, stated that managing multiple wives was not as difficult as many think, describing it instead as a form of “emotional equilibrium.”
“That is a different topic for another day,” Nwoko said when asked how he manages his household. “Yes, every man should do that. The example I give is this — imagine standing on one leg; you know how difficult that is. But to stand on two, three, or four legs is much more balanced. So, I feel sorry for those who have one wife because it’s difficult to stand on one leg.”
When reminded that the Holy Bible does not endorse polygamy, Nwoko countered that the Old Testament does, insisting that his lifestyle aligns with his faith.
“I am a man of faith. The Old Testament supports it. But that’s not what we are here to discuss,” he added.
The senator also dismissed any regrets over his marital choices, saying he would make the same decisions again if given the chance.
“No, I don’t have any regret. I will do the same thing again. Of course, that’s the way it should be. You should marry who you want to marry,” he said confidently.
Reacting to allegations of domestic violence recently leveled against him by his actress wife, Nwoko dismissed them as false, describing himself as a peaceful and loving husband.
“No, come on. You know I am not a violent person. I respect my wives. I love them and my kids,” he said.
His comments came just hours after Regina Daniels shared photos and videos of her newly acquired mansion on Instagram, fueling speculations about a widening rift between the couple.
In the post, Daniels wrote: “In my house, I am a Queen! I needed a roof over my head, so I got this for me and my family.”
Her social media update followed a viral video from October 18, in which the actress was seen in tears outside her Abuja residence, lamenting alleged abuse.
“In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing, but in my own house, I am a Queen. Not again. I can’t stand the violence; it’s too much,” she said in the footage.
The couple’s six-year marriage , once a subject of public fascination due to their wide age gap, appears to be facing a major crisis, now playing out before millions of Nigerians on social media.
