Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to take full advantage of the abundant natural and agricultural resources available across its communities for economic empowerment and self-reliance.
The governor made the call during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream II orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Keffi Local Government Area on Tuesday.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Yakubu Kwanta, Governor Sule congratulated the corps members on a successful and hitch-free three-week orientation exercise and commended them for their patriotism and dedication to national service.
Sule highlighted the economic potential embedded in Nasarawa's agrarian economy and mineral wealth, urging the corps members to harness these resources as they proceed to their various places of primary assignment.
“Nasarawa State is agrarian in nature, blessed with fertile lands suitable for the cultivation of various crops both for local consumption and export. Additionally, the state boasts of not less than 90 percent of Nigeria’s mineral resources.
I urge you to appreciate and explore the opportunities in our communities to develop yourselves and become economically self-reliant,” he said.
While assuring them of the government’s commitment to their welfare and security throughout their service year, Governor Sule encouraged the corps members to embrace their postings in good faith, noting that the deployments were made in line with the scheme's policy and the state’s development priorities.
“I have been briefed on your resilience and spirited service during the orientation. As you proceed to the field, hold on to the values and lessons you have acquired. Serve as ambassadors of hope, catalysts for development, and advocates for a better future,” he added.
In her remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Salamatu Muhammad, congratulated the 2,335 corps members for their discipline and active participation in the drills, lectures, leadership training, sports, and Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programs throughout the orientation.
She urged them to approach the service year with humility, selflessness, and dedication, and to remain worthy representatives of their families, the NYSC, and the country at large.
Muhammad also appealed to corps employers to accept and mentor corps members posted to their establishments and called on local governments, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to support corps members in their various communities.
