In a development that has sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s political landscape, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially resigned from his position with immediate effect.
Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, in his resignation letter, cited health reasons as the basis for his decision, stating that he now intends to prioritize his personal well-being and medical needs.
“It has become necessary to step aside to attend to pressing health matters. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to serve,” the former governor reportedly stated.
While the official narrative focuses on health concerns, insiders within the ruling APC suggest that mounting internal pressures, leadership disputes, and allegations of financial impropriety may have influenced the timing of his resignation.
Party sources revealed that some members of the National Working Committee had raised concerns over “excessive financial demands” allegedly linked to the chairman’s office. The development, according to observers, may have deepened existing cracks within the party hierarchy.
Ganduje’s resignation comes just months ahead of the party’s National Convention scheduled for December 2025, a highly anticipated event that could reshape the APC’s leadership and direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
