A political advocacy group under the aegis of the Nasarawa West APC Concerned Group has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State to uphold its rotational governorship arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the group, Mr. Benjamin Baka, made the call on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area, Dr. Idris Damagani, in Keffi.
Baka emphasized that the rotational policy has contributed immensely to peace, political harmony, and inclusivity within the state chapter of the APC. He noted that the zoning arrangement had brought focus, unity, and reduced internal wrangling within the party.
“The rotation policy has given us focus, a clear direction, and has brought peace to our party. It has reduced rancour and unnecessary competition and rivalry to the barest minimum,” Baka said.
He argued that since the rotation had previously favoured Nasarawa West (with Dr. Abdullahi Adamu), then Nasarawa South (with late Aliyu Akwe-Doma and Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura), and is currently with Nasarawa North (under Governor Abdullahi Sule), it was only fair that power should return to Nasarawa West in 2027.
“With Governor Sule set to complete his tenure from Nasarawa North, equity demands that the governorship should rotate back to Nasarawa West,” Baka insisted.
He called on traditional rulers and local government chairmen across the state to support the continuation of the zoning arrangement, describing it as essential for maintaining peace and stability.
Baka also said the group is embarking on a statewide advocacy for three key agendas: sustaining zoning, promoting the achievements of Governor Sule’s administration, and encouraging increased participation in agriculture for food security.
In his remarks, Dr. Idris Damagani, Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area, commended the group’s initiative, describing their agenda as strategic, timely, and in the best interest of the state.
“This agenda is not only well thought out but also unifying. Whether it’s about the achievements of Governor Sule, the push for agricultural development, or the rotational arrangement, these are all issues that can sustain peace and political stability,” Damagani said.
He pledged to take the message to his colleagues across other local government areas and called on the people of the state to support the zoning policy for continued harmony and development.
“Rotation is the only permanent solution to political fairness and stability. It has worked in Nasarawa and across the country. We must all protect and sustain it,” he added.
