The city of Lagos is set to host a historic gathering of Nigeria’s finest entertainers and international creatives as the National Theatre Festival of Unity (NATFU 2024) begins on Friday, December 13, 2024.
In a statement released by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Yunusa Mohammed, the two-day event will take place at the iconic National Theatre, a venue renowned for its role in promoting unity through cultural diversity. Themed “Rebranding Boundless Opportunities: A New Era of Unity and Inclusivity,” the festival seeks to foster better understanding among Nigeria’s ethnic groups, highlighting the power of culture in driving national cohesion.
"The festival will showcase a vibrant cultural parade, featuring representations of Nigeria’s diverse ethnic heritage,” Mr. Mohammed stated. He added that this year’s edition promises to be the most spectacular yet, with special appearances by theatre luminaries and performances that blend music, spoken word, dance, and drama.
NATFU 2024 will also feature a series of engaging programs, including short film screenings and a roundtable discussion on cultural rebranding as a tool for inclusivity, economic growth, and innovation. A highlight of the festival will be a live concert showcasing emerging and established artists from across the globe.
Dignitaries expected at the event include top government officials, influential business leaders, and members of the diplomatic community.
According to the Planning Committee, the festival aims to drive positive societal change while celebrating the boundless creativity of Nigerian youth.
As Lagos becomes the epicenter of culture and entertainment from December 13-14, the National Theatre will cement its legacy as a beacon of unity in diversity.
