The Nasarawa State Government has announced plans to invest ₦10.4 billion in constructing the Keffi-Jos-Makurdi bypass and an underpass in Akwanga town, aimed at reducing congestion, enhancing connectivity, and fostering development in the area.
The Managing Director of the Nasarawa State Urban Development Board (NUDB), Engineer Yahaya Wada Muhammad, disclosed this during an inspection visit to the project sites.
He was accompanied by the Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Media and Publicity, Dr. Nawani Aboki, journalists, and the site contractor.
Speaking during the visit, Engr. Wada explained that the 5.6-kilometer road project will cost over ₦4 billion, with ₦400 million allocated for compensation to affected residents.
At another project site in Akwanga town, involving the construction of an underpass and road dualization connecting Keffi, Lafia, Wamba, and Andaha, he noted that ₦6 billion had been earmarked, including ₦523 million for compensations.
The NUDB Managing Director expressed optimism that the projects would be completed within the stipulated timeframe in line with contractual agreements.
He added that the initiatives would ease transportation, improve the town’s aesthetics, and open new business opportunities.
He appealed to residents and stakeholders to support the government and commended Chun Mada, Mr. Samsu Gamo Yare, for his contributions toward the projects' actualization.
The site contractor, Engineer Nizar Ibrahim of Bauhaus Global Investment Nigeria Limited, assured the team of timely project delivery, citing the availability of funds as a key driver.
Additionally, the Federal Controller, Lafia Field Office, Engr. Idah Diakwo, represented by Principal Engineer Bulus Bzigu, expressed satisfaction with the progress, emphasizing compliance with all processes and standards.
Residents of Akwanga, including Musa Muhammad and Kpazo Michael, lauded Governor Sule for initiating the transformational projects, pledging their support and urging for timely completion.
The projects, once completed, are expected to ease transportation, reduce congestion, and spur socio-economic development in Akwanga and its environs.
