Protesters linked to the EndBadGovernance movement will face trial today in four states: Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, and Borno. This development was confirmed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Intelligence, Dasuki Galadanchi, during the Nigerian Bar Association's (NBA) recently concluded Annual General Conference.
A total of 126 protesters, who were apprehended for carrying Russian flags and advocating for a regime change during the demonstrations, are scheduled to be arraigned in court today.
The protests, which escalated into violence, resulted in casualties and the looting of public and private properties across multiple states, leading to the arrests.
The legal defense for the protesters will be spearheaded by renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, who will appear before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a related matter, a group of detained protesters has petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to rescind a prior order that allowed for their detention for up to two months.
On August 22, Justice Nwite approved the police’s request to hold 124 protesters in custody for 60 days while investigations continue.
