Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, revealed the substantial debt burden inherited from the previous administration, specifically owed to contractors across multiple projects, during the inauguration of the 10.89KM Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road project in Eleme Local Government Area.
Governor Fubara emphasized the unexpected magnitude of these debts, contrasting public perceptions of a balanced financial ledger with contractors.
"This administration is facing a significant debt burden. Most of the projects being commissioned require substantial balance payments to contractors, amounting to billions," Governor Fubara disclosed, shedding light on the challenges his administration encountered post-assumption of office.
The Governor, who marked the occasion as the commencement of his One Year in Office Anniversary celebrations, highlighted the completion of the road project, initially awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for N6.7 billion.
Despite the financial strain posed by outstanding payments to contractors, Governor Fubara assured the public that his administration remained committed to delivering development initiatives despite facing considerable challenges.
Governor Fubara underscored the strategic importance of the newly inaugurated road, designed as a bypass to alleviate traffic issues along the East-West Road, currently undergoing reconstruction.
