Professor Igho Natufe, President General of the Okpe Union, has criticized the concentration of Nigeria's import-export activities in Lagos seaports. Speaking at the 94th anniversary of the Okpe Union in Lagos, Natufe emphasized the neglect of seaports in other regions, particularly in the Niger Delta.
He highlighted that Sapele, Calabar, Koko, Port Harcourt, and Warri seaports have been abandoned and underutilized, despite their strategic locations.
"It makes no sense to concentrate Nigeria's import-export business in Lagos seaports alone," Natufe asserted, urging President Bola Tinubu to revive these neglected ports.
Natufe also criticized Okpe political leaders for their poor performance in attracting investments and developing infrastructure in Delta State.
He called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to address infrastructural deficits and create a conducive environment for investors.
Furthermore, Natufe addressed broader national issues, including insecurity and the need for restructuring Nigeria based on justice, fairness, and equity.
He called for a round table conference involving all indigenous ethnic nationalities to address the country's existential crisis.
In conclusion, Natufe reaffirmed the Okpe Nation's commitment to working with other ethnic groups to restructure Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and equitable resolution.
