Akwashiki Family Reaffirms Support for Labaran Maku, Denies Endorsing Any Other Candidate in Nasarawa North By-Election
By Suleiman Abubakar Rimi Uku Lafia

The family of the late Godiya Akwashiki has dismissed reports suggesting it has endorsed any candidate other than Labaran Maku for the forthcoming Nasarawa North Senatorial By-election.

In a statement signed by Mr. Anza Jehu Yunana, the family maintained that its endorsement of Maku remains unchanged and was made in honour of the wishes of the late senator.

Jehu stated that the family's decision was guided by what he described as the late senator's expressed desire that Maku should succeed him in representing the people of Nasarawa North.

“My late brother, Distinguished Senator Godiya Akwashiki, left a wish recommending that after his death, the family should support His Excellency Mr. Labaran Maku to succeed him.

That is exactly what we have done through our father, who publicly conveyed the family’s position,” he said.

According to the statement, the family carefully considered all candidates contesting the by-election, including Barr. Danladi En-vulanza of the APC and David Emmanuel Ombugadu of the PDP, before settling on Maku based on what it described as his exemplary leadership record and commitment to the welfare of the people.

The family noted that Maku’s reputation as a politician who consistently prioritizes the interests of his constituents and the development of the state distinguished him among the contenders.

Jehu added that these qualities earned the former minister widespread admiration across the state, where he is popularly known as “Mutumin Kirki” (a man of integrity).

He therefore urged residents of the Nasarawa North Senatorial District to disregard reports circulating on social media alleging that the family had shifted its support to another candidate.

“The family of the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki has not endorsed any candidate other than Mr. Labaran Maku of the Labour Party, and we remain committed to that position,” the statement emphasized.
