Kigbu Withdraws from Contest, Backs Party Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Mohammed Al-Makura, nephew of former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency seat following the withdrawal of fellow aspirant, Hon. Isaac Ali Kigbu.
The development positions Mohammed Al-Makura, a former member of the House of Representatives, as the sole APC flagbearer for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hon. Isaac Ali Kigbu announced his withdrawal during a press briefing in Lafia, explaining that the decision followed extensive consultations with the leadership of the party, including Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.
According to Kigbu, his withdrawal was informed by the need to sustain unity, peace, and cohesion within the ruling APC.
He stated that political ambitions should not override the collective interest and stability of the party, emphasizing that the APC must remain focused on delivering good governance to Nigerians.
Kigbu subsequently called on his supporters across Lafia and Obi Local Government Areas to rally behind the party’s consensus candidate and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The former aspirant also dismissed allegations circulating on social media claiming he received ₦50 million to step down from the race.
He described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that his decision was based solely on loyalty, conviction, and commitment to the unity of the APC.
Kigbu further assured constituents that he would continue to contribute to the development and welfare of Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency through public service and political engagement, irrespective of the outcome of the election process.
