The High Court of Justice sitting in Lafia, Court 2, has sentenced one Ali Yakubu to death by hanging for offences bordering on conspiracy to commit and armed robbery.

The judgment was delivered by Honourable Justice Simon Aboki of the Nasarawa State High Court of Justice after a protracted legal battle that lasted several months.

Yakubu was found guilty under the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, with the court holding that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The prosecution team was led by the Nasarawa State Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Isaac A. Danladi, alongside a team of lawyers from the State Ministry of Justice.

In his ruling, Justice Aboki affirmed that the evidence presented before the court clearly established the defendant’s culpability, thereby justifying the maximum penalty under the law.

Consequently, the court sentenced Ali Yakubu to death by hanging in line with the provisions of the Act.

Following the pronouncement of the judgment, the Attorney General, Barrister Isaac A. Danladi, praised the presiding judge for what he described as an erudite judgment, expressing optimism that the ruling would serve as a deterrent to other perpetrators of heinous crimes in the society.
