Diplomat builds ₦155m Alumni Secretariat, empowers indigent students, earns praise as model of leadership and philanthropy

The inspiring journey of Ambassador Yakubu Musa, Protocol Liaison Officer (PLO) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been described as a testament to the power of passion, opportunity, and purposeful service.
Drawing from the famous words of American long-distance runner Steve Prefontaine that “when passion meets opportunity, purpose is unleashed,” stakeholders say the diplomat’s life mirrors this philosophy through his rise from a pioneer student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), to a key figure in Nigeria’s presidential protocol structure.
A graduate of Political Science from NSUK’s class of 2007, Ambassador Musa began his professional career with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs shortly after graduation, where he served in various diplomatic capacities across the globe.
His last foreign assignment was at the Nigerian Embassy in Paris, France, where he served as a diplomatic attaché. It was during this period that he encountered then President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a meeting that later culminated in his appointment as Protocol Liaison Officer to the President.
Since assuming office, Ambassador Musa has earned commendation for his diligence, professionalism, and commitment to national service, distinguishing himself as one of the few young Nigerians to occupy such a sensitive position.
Beyond his official duties, the Toto Local Government-born diplomat has maintained strong ties with his roots, contributing significantly to the development of his community, Nasarawa State, and his alma mater.
Widely acknowledged for his philanthropic initiatives, Ambassador Musa has provided scholarships to indigent students, with beneficiaries receiving up to ₦150,000 for first-class performance and ₦100,000 for those with a minimum CGPA of 3.0.
Driven by his personal philosophy of “making children of nobody become somebody,” he instituted an annual PLO Scholarship Scheme aimed at expanding access to education for underprivileged youths.
His interventions also extend to community development projects in education, water supply, electricity, and religious infrastructure across Toto Local Government Area and beyond.
In a landmark contribution to NSUK, the diplomat recently funded and constructed a one-storey state-of-the-art Alumni Secretariat Building valued at over ₦155 million.
The project followed a request by the President of the NSUK Alumni Association, Barr. Nuhu J. Egya, during a courtesy visit in Abuja in November 2025.
Completed in less than five months under his direct supervision, the edifice was commissioned by Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, during the university’s 8th Combined Convocation and 25th Anniversary ceremony held on April 11, 2027, in Keffi.
Observers say the gesture has not only strengthened alumni engagement but also relieved the association of a major infrastructural burden that would have been difficult to achieve within a single executive tenure.
Stakeholders have therefore called for sustained support for Ambassador Musa, describing him as a valuable asset whose contributions to education and community development deserve lasting recognition.
They further advocated that his name be permanently inscribed on the Alumni Secretariat Building in appreciation of his exceptional generosity.
As discussions around leadership and national development continue, many believe Ambassador Yakubu Musa represents a shining example of how dedication, opportunity, and service can combine to drive meaningful impact.
