SDP Woos APC Aspirant Kashim Tumsah for Yobe 2027 Governorship Race
— Party Offers Ticket, Seeks ‘New Direction’ in State Leadership

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Yobe State has formally called on a leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Musa Tumsah, to defect and contest the 2027 governorship election under its platform.
The appeal was made during a press conference held in Damaturu, where the State Chairman of the SDP, Abba Bature, disclosed that the decision to adopt Tumsah as the party’s preferred candidate was unanimous among stakeholders and loyalists.
Bature described Tumsah as a standout figure among aspirants across party lines, citing his consistent contributions to the socio-economic development of Yobe State and his grassroots appeal.
“Kashim Musa Tumsah has proven himself as a true democrat and development-driven leader, impacting lives positively across the state even before venturing fully into partisan politics,” Bature said.
He added that residents across the state have expressed confidence in Tumsah’s leadership capacity, noting that his experience and vision position him to steer Yobe towards sustainable growth.
The SDP chairman emphasized the need for a shift in leadership style in the state, calling for transparency, accountability, and people-oriented governance.
“For too long, our people have yearned for leadership that listens, serves, and delivers. The time has come for a new direction anchored on real development and responsible leadership,” he stated.
Bature further stressed that the call extended to Tumsah transcends individual ambition, describing it as a collective movement aimed at securing a better future for the people of Yobe State.
“This is not about personalities but about Yobe and its future. We seek to build a state where every citizen has a voice and leadership remains accountable,” he added.
The announcement was met with enthusiasm, as SDP members expressed optimism that Tumsah would heed the call ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tumsah, widely regarded as a grassroots politician with cross-party support, is currently pursuing his governorship ambition under the APC but continues to enjoy significant backing across political divides in the state.
