IPOB Knocks Nigeria’s Terrorism List, Labels It “Deceptive and Misleading”
Group insists it is a lawful movement, defends agitation for self-determination, rejects terrorism allegations

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly criticized the Federal Government’s recently released terrorism sponsors list, describing it as “a theatre of absurdity” and an attempt to mislead both Nigerians and the international community.
In a press statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group dismissed the list as “a disgraceful farce,” alleging that it was designed to mask underlying realities and shift public perception.
The statement, released on behalf of IPOB under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, argued that the designation of individuals and groups as terrorism sponsors lacks credibility and raises questions about the government’s commitment to justice and accountability.
IPOB further maintained that it remains a non-violent, people-driven movement advocating for the right to self-determination, stressing that it should not be categorized alongside violent groups.
The organization also questioned what it described as contradictions in its treatment within Nigeria compared to its operations in some foreign jurisdictions.
The group reiterated that its agitation would continue despite what it termed “attempts at intimidation and propaganda,” insisting that the struggle for justice, dignity, and self-determination is a fundamental right.
While rejecting the allegations, IPOB called on the international community to critically assess the narrative surrounding its activities and the broader security situation in Nigeria.
The Federal Government has yet to issue an official response to the latest statement as of the time of filing this report.
