Nasarawa Assembly Partners NAPTIP to Combat Violence, Child Labour, and Women Exploitation

In a strategic move to address violence, child labour, and the exploitation of women and children, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has strengthened collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The initiative was highlighted today when Dr. Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, the Assembly’s only female lawmaker, hosted Hajiya Sa’adatu Galadima, State Commandant of NAPTIP, at her office in Lafia.
The engagement coincided with the International Women’s Day celebration themed “Give and Gain”.
The discussions focused on combating child labour, addressing the challenges of out-of-school children, curbing women trafficking, and tackling prostitution, as well as other forms of violence against women and children. Dr. Danyaro emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to protect vulnerable groups and lamented the frequent violation of women’s and children’s rights.
She further urged women to embrace skill acquisition as a tool for poverty reduction and assured that the State Assembly remains committed to partnering with NAPTIP and other relevant organizations.
She also revealed that she is sponsoring a bill aimed at protecting women and children from all forms of violence.
Speaking on the occasion, Hajiya Galadima stated that the visit was intended to strengthen partnership with the state female legislator in the fight against all forms of violence affecting women and children.
She also highlighted the importance of celebrating women’s achievements while addressing challenges such as early marriage, child abuse, out-of-school children, and prostitution.
Hajiya Galadima further advocated for increased women participation in politics, enhanced girl-child education, and training for women in professional fields to foster empowerment and social development.
