Efforts to restore stable electricity supply in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, are reportedly gaining traction as funds have been released to relevant agencies to tackle persistent power outages.
Speaking at a bi-monthly press briefing at the NUJ Press Centre in Lafia, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Hon. Peter Ahemba, assured residents that stolen and vandalized power installations are being replaced to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
He called for calm as government works with stakeholders to improve power distribution and stability across the state.
The recent power disruptions have triggered peaceful protests and disrupted socio-economic activities, particularly for less-privileged residents struggling to fuel alternative power sources.
Governor Sule, last week, inaugurated the leadership of the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC), urging them to urgently address the worsening electricity situation in Lafia.
On political developments, Ahemba attributed the defection of two-time opposition governorship candidate Dr. David Ombugadu to the administration’s successful governance and achievements, which, according to him, have weakened opposition influence.
He emphasized that while opposition parties play a critical watchdog role, the government’s performance has earned the support of frontline opposition leaders.
Regarding security, Ahemba highlighted that the state government’s proactive approach, combined with the determination of security agencies, has contributed to the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed by residents.
The state government continues to encourage residents to remain patient as restoration efforts progress.
