In their continued offensive onslaught on communities in Niger State, some heavily armed gun men believed to be terrorists in the early hours of Sunday,the 1st of February,2026 launched a total assault on Agwara Local Government burning down a Church and Police Divisional Command in Agwara.

The attackers reportedly began their assault in the main town of Agwara by setting ablaze a police station, leaving the security post badly damaged.
Afterward, the bandits moved to the residence of Mr. Ahmed Burade, where they abducted his wife, his sister-in-law, and three of his children.
According to eyewitness accounts, Mr. Ahmed Burade narrowly escaped while being taken by the bandits when police operatives attempted to repel the attackers. His escape, however, did not prevent the kidnappers from fleeing with the other victims.
The bandits also attacked the UMCA Church, which they reportedly set part of it on fire, further deepening the devastation and shock across the community.
Also, the terrorists carried out another assault in Mariga Local Government abducting eleven persons mostly women and children just as three others were reportedly slaughtered by the armed men.
The terrorists,it was gathered that they invaded the community on Motorcycles numbering fifty with each Motorcycle carrying three passengers wielding sophisticated guns.
On their arrival in the early hours of Sunday started shooting from all directions leaving four persons death and eleven others abducted.
As a result of the attacks, many residents of Agwara fled their homes and sought refuge in nearby bushes and surrounding areas for fear of further violence. The situation remains tense, with the community gripped by anxiety and uncertainty.
Residents are calling on security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently intervene, restore calm, and ensure the safe rescue of those abducted.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) in Niger State, Mr Wasiu Abiodun in a statement,explained that “ 1st February,2026 at about 3.40 am,armed bandits invaded Agwara community attacked the Police station where they were engaged by the tactical team on ground used suspected dynamite to set the station ablaze having overpowered the team.
“The terrorists later moved to UMC church in the community, burnt part of the church, proceeded to other areas and abducted about five persons whose identity is yet to be ascertained. Monitoring continues, further development will be communicated, please” Abiodun explained in a statement
