Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has announced the approval of an end-of-year bonus for state civil servants and officially launched the state’s new Public Service Rules aimed at strengthening discipline, efficiency and professionalism in the civil service.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday in Lafia during the 2025 Nasarawa State Civil Service Week.
Although the exact amount of the bonus was not disclosed, Sule explained that the state government would have preferred to pay a 13th-month salary but was constrained by the financial capacity of some local government areas.
“We would have announced a 13th-month bonus, but some local governments are not doing well enough to pay the same amount,” the governor said.
“So, we will ask the LGAs to carry out their due process, determine how much they have saved and tell us the percentage they can pay. Once they do that, the state will align with that percentage.
I don’t want a situation where the state pays 13 months and LGAs can only afford 30 to 40 percent.”
Sule said the Civil Service Week offered an opportunity to appraise the Nasarawa State civil service, not just as a workforce, but as a living institution made up of people who must be committed to excellence, integrity and innovation.
He described the theme of the celebration, “Repositioning the Civil Service for a Digital-Age Productive Future,” as timely, noting that his administration has prioritised digital governance.
“In this era of global digital transformation, no government can afford to operate without data tools, modern methods and the right mindset,” Sule said.
“The civil service must evolve into a smart, technology-driven and data-informed organisation capable of responding swiftly and effectively to the needs of the people of Nasarawa State.”
According to the governor, the state government is laying the foundation for a paperless, efficient and transparent public administration through the ongoing digitalisation of human resource systems, payroll management and record-keeping.
Sule also disclosed that his administration had approved and implemented the backlog of promotions for civil servants, a move he said was aimed at restoring fairness, morale and confidence in the system.
He commended the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for economic reforms which, he said, have enabled Nasarawa State to execute key projects without borrowing.
The governor used the occasion to reward outstanding and punctual civil servants, with Comfort David receiving ₦1 million, while Amina Idris and Chinasa Azubini received ₦500,000 each.
Earlier, the Head of the Nasarawa State Civil Service, Abigail Waya, praised Governor Sule for his consistent support to the civil service, describing the Civil Service Week as impactful and inclusive.
Waya said the celebration featured a series of activities and assured that it would be institutionalised.
She urged civil servants to remain dedicated and punctual, and advised them to obtain and study the new Public Service Rules to guide them in the discharge of their official duties.
