President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of governing board chairmen and members for several key federal institutions, marking a fresh move to strengthen leadership and drive reforms across strategic sectors.
In an official statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President announced the constitution of the boards of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), and the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF).
Al-Makura Leads UBEC Board
Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, appointed earlier in July, retains his position as Chairman of the UBEC Board.
Other members appointed to represent the six geopolitical zones include:
- Uchendu Ikechi Mbaegbulem – South East
- Gift Ngo – South South
- Mrs. Ibiwunmi Akinnola – South West
- Dr. Meiro Mandara – North East
- Dr. Abdu Imam Saulawa – North West
- Prof. Paul Ibukun-Olu Bolorunduro – North Central
The chairman and board members will serve an initial four-year term.
Babangida Heads Bank of Agriculture
President Tinubu also confirmed Muhammad Babangida as Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), with Ayo Sotinrin appointed as Managing Director.
The following executive directors were approved:
- Fatima Garba (Sokoto) – Executive Director, Corporate Services
- Ka’amuna Ibrahim Khadi (Borno) – Executive Director, Risk Management & Strategy
- Hakeem Oluwatosin Salami (Kwara) – Executive Director, Operations
Non-executive directors appointed to represent the six geopolitical zones are:
- Aminu Malami Mohammed – North East
- Charles Amuchienwa – South East
- Oladejo Odunuga – South West
- Rabiu Idris Funtua – North West
- Kochi Donald Iorgyer – North Central
Tinubu Constitutes NADF Board
The President also constituted the board of the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), following the earlier appointment of Muhammad Abu Ibrahim as Executive Secretary/CEO.
The newly appointed board members are:
- Mallam Bello Maccido – Chairman (North West), pioneer Chairman, FBNQuest Merchant Bank
- Dr. Nelson Henry Essien – Member (South South)
- Amina Ahmed Habib – Member (North West), Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants
- Engr. Akinyinka Olufela Akinnola – Member (South West)
- Hassan Tanimu Musa Usman – Member (North East)
- Lufer Samson Orkar – Member (North Central)
- Felix Achibiri – Member (South East), Group Director, Genesis Energy Holdings
The new board is expected to bolster agribusiness financing and expand access to affordable capital for farmers nationwide.
