Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening partnership with the media, describing journalists as vital partners in the state’s development process.
The governor made this known when he received the newly elected leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel, Nasarawa State Council, at the Government House, Lafia.
Governor Sule, who congratulated the new executives led by Chairman Abubakar Abdullahi, commended the Chapel for its professionalism and balanced reportage of government activities, which he said has helped project Nasarawa positively to investors and development partners.
“We have always considered you as partners because whatever we are doing must be publicized for people to know and support,” the governor stated. “Your work has brought visibility to our programs and has helped us attract investors, including foreign missions and development agencies.”
He acknowledged the Chapel’s earlier request for assistance with office rent and facilities, assuring them that his administration will look into the matter.
“We will see how to assist you with your rent. In the meantime, I encourage you to visit the newly renovated Youth Centre, which could serve as an alternative office space,” he added.
Governor Sule also hinted at plans to provide additional office space within the newly completed Multi-Door Courthouse complex, which he described as one of the most beautiful buildings in Lafia.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Abubakar Abdullahi, commended Governor Sule’s visionary leadership and commitment to infrastructural and economic transformation across the state.
He cited landmark projects including the 3,300-hectare NASACCO Rice Farm, the Lafia Flyover and Underpass, the ongoing Keffi/Akwanga dual carriageway project, and the completion of the new State Secretariat Complex, as clear indicators of the governor’s dedication to growth and welfare.
Abdullahi further lauded the administration for its consistent engagement with the media and the support given to journalists through logistics, vehicle donations, and previous interventions in office accommodation.
“Your Excellency, we remain grateful for your past support, particularly the donation of a bus and the payment of our office rent last year,” Abdullahi said. “However, the rent has since expired, and our furniture and vehicle tyres need replacement to enable us to carry out our duties effectively.”
He appealed to the governor to once again come to the Chapel’s aid, assuring him of the journalists’ continued professionalism and support for the state’s developmental agenda.
Governor Sule in response reaffirmed his readiness to sustain the cordial relationship with the media, emphasizing that the success of government policies largely depends on effective information dissemination.
“The media is the bridge between the government and the people,” he noted. “We will continue to support you because your work helps us communicate our vision to the citizens.”
The visit ended with a group photograph, symbolizing renewed partnership between the Nasarawa State Government and the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ.
