The Niger State Scholarship Board has announced that Governor Umar Mohammed Bago has approved over 1.5 billion for scholarships for students in public tertiary institutions.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Comrade Usman Mohammed Sani, thanked the Governor for his trust and support, noting that the latest approval follows ₦2.5 billion spent on scholarships last year.
He explained that more than 35,000 students attempted to register on the scholarship portal earlier this year, but about 27,000 successfully completed their applications. He assured that all eligible students who applied will benefit.
According to him, the scholarship is paid once every academic year and continues until graduation for students who meet the requirements.
Usman Sani appealed to students to be patient, saying payments will be made in phases, school by school, to ensure transparency. He added that acknowledgment letters can be printed directly from the portal.
“The only challenge we face is impatience from some students,” he said. “But with the funds now approved, Insha’Allah, we will begin payment soon.”Niger Scholarship Board Gets 1.5bn Boost for Students.
Comrade Usman Sani told Journalists that as one time Students union activist, his relationship with the students has been so overwhelming which according to him has built confidence and trust in the mind of the students since he assumed office in the last two years.
He acknowledged the support and cooperation of the students and the National Association of Niger State (NANIS across the Public tertiary institutions for donating two dozens of plastic chairs and laptop to the board describing their kind gesture as the testimonies of the cordiality that exist between his leadership in the board.
The executive secretary of the scholarship board assured the students that he will continue to partner with the entire Niger State students across the Public tertiary institutions in the country in ensuring that bursary allowance will be given the needed attention as at when due.
He appealed to always shun any act that will be inimical to their studies in their respective institutions assuring that the present administration of governor Umar Mohammed Bago is committed to ensure the prompt payment of their bursary allowance throughout their studies.
