The Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Barr. Esson Mairiga, has commended the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi, for the ministry’s budget performance between January and September 2025.
Barr. Mairiga, who led members of the committee during the budget performance review at the Assembly complex, said the Ministry of Justice had demonstrated consistency and accountability, urging the team to sustain and surpass the achievements recorded so far.
“We want to appreciate the Commissioner and his team for the satisfactory performance in the second quarter. After scrutinizing the documents before us, we must say that your ministry has remained a role model to other MDAs.
However, we urge you to do more,” Mairiga stated.
He further assured that the Assembly would intensify efforts to ensure timely release of funds appropriated to the Ministry, noting that justice remains central to governance and must not be undermined due to lack of resources.
Earlier in his presentation, Attorney General Barr. Isaac Danladi, who led his Permanent Secretary, Directors, and other top officials of the Ministry, submitted a four-page budget performance report covering April to June 2025.
Danladi appreciated the legislature for its effective oversight and legislative guidance, while identifying challenges confronting the ministry.
These include delays in securing approvals for capital expenditure, low revenue turnout, and difficulties in recouping the statutory 1% vetting fee from MDAs.
“What affects the Ministry of Justice affects the entire system of government.
We appeal for timely approvals and releases to enable us deliver on our mandate,” Danladi said.
The committee members also raised concerns about inadequate staffing in the Ministry of Justice, which they said affects court proceedings and the overall justice delivery system in the state.
