Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has urged his kinsmen from Mada South in Akwanga Local Government Area to extend greater appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the release of funds to state governments, which has enabled massive infrastructural development across the country.
Governor Sule made the appeal on Wednesday while hosting a delegation from the Mada South Unity Forum, Akwanga South, at the conference hall of the new state secretariat complex in Lafia.
While acknowledging the commendation he has received for various capital projects in the state, Governor Sule emphasized that President Tinubu deserves higher praise for creating the fiscal space for such achievements.
“Yes, you can commend me,” the Governor stated, “but I want you to appreciate the kind of President we have. President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has helped us by releasing resources to us. That is why we are executing projects without borrowing a single naira.”
Governor Sule disclosed that his administration recently completed the multi-billion naira state secretariat complex and paid the contractor in full without recourse to borrowing.
“We didn’t borrow a kobo. We used our resources to pay the contractor 100 percent last week.
The same applies to the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Interchange, and similar initiatives will soon unfold in Akwanga and Keffi,” he said.
He announced that the next major project in the area will be the construction of the Buku-Andaha Road, which he said will open up rural communities in Akwanga South and Wamba LGAs, offering them greater access to development.
Dismissing political insinuations, Governor Sule clarified that the development of Akwanga South is not influenced by the voting pattern of the last election.
“Whether or not you voted for me is irrelevant. I am already the Governor. What matters now is my responsibility to serve every citizen of Nasarawa State. All of you are my people.”
Responding to the forum’s request for the creation of the Kpangai Chiefdom, Governor Sule emphasized the importance of traditional consensus and unity among stakeholders.
“I am willing to sign a bill for the chiefdom once passed by the State Assembly. But I won’t do it in a way that breeds division.
You must go back and consult with the Chun Mada and other traditional rulers for a united front,” he added.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Professor Tukura Bitrus Wokhe, said the mission of the Mada South Unity Forum is to foster unity, promote development, and support government efforts in the state.
Prof. Wokhe commended Governor Sule for his inclusive leadership style, especially in making appointments and initiating projects in the area despite the electoral outcome.
“This shows your prioritization of governance over political enmity. Lafia is now a model capital city, and we are seeing similar transformation in Akwanga and Keffi,” he said.
The forum reaffirmed its request for the creation of Kpangai Chiefdom to give the people of the area a greater sense of belonging and identity.
The courtesy visit was attended by notable personalities including the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu; Member representing Akwanga South at the State Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Chun Aliyu; former Senator Philip Gyunka; past and present political appointees; as well as traditional and community leaders.
