A High Court sitting in Minna, Niger State, has issued an interim injunction restraining the Niger State Government and its agencies from taking any action that may adversely affect the operations of Badeggi Radio Broadcasting Services Ltd.
Justice Mohammed Mohammed, who presided over the matter, granted the order following a motion ex-parte filed by the broadcasting company and its Managing Director, Mr. Mohammed Shuaibu Badeggi.
In the application, the applicants invoked relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Act to support their claims.
The court barred the respondents, including the Niger State Governor, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Niger State Urban Development Board, from revoking the company’s broadcasting license, sealing its premises, or taking any forceful action against the station located within the N.T.A. Compound, Uphill Minna.
Justice Mohammed emphasized the need to preserve the status quo pending the hearing and determination of the substantive motion before the court.
Speaking after the ruling, counsel to the applicants, Philip Emmanuel Esq., lauded the decision, describing it as a significant step in safeguarding the rights and business interests of his clients.
The case has been adjourned for further hearing to enable a full review of the legal issues involved.
